Mistake fares: rare, real, and not a business model

A mistake fare is a published price that is obviously wrong — a transatlantic in the low hundreds when the market is four times that, caused by a currency or routing error. They are uncommon. They are not a weekly coupon calendar.

If you see one on results

Open the seller immediately. If checkout still shows it, you can try to buy. Take screenshots. The airline may still void the ticket and refund you. US rules around mistakes are not a guarantee you fly. Do not book non-refundable hotels until the ticket is issued and stable.

If someone sells you a “secret mistake fare”
