The best time to book a flight and the cheapest days to fly

When to buy

Domestic leisure: often a few weeks to a few months, earlier for Thanksgiving and Christmas. International summer: earlier than you think. Last-minute only if you are flexible — last-minute. Set a price alert and buy when you can live with the total, not when a meme says “never buy on Tuesday.”

Which days to fly

Tuesday and Wednesday outbound still show up cheap on many US routes. Friday and Sunday do not. Holiday eves overwrite that — holiday calendar.
