Saving

Metasearch works in airport codes. Cities do not. JFK, EWR, and LGA price differently. IAD, DCA, and BWI do too. A $40 “saving” that adds a two-hour transfer is not a saving. A $120 gap on a long-haul often is.
Search the obvious airport. Search the alternate. Add ground time and ground cost in USD. Overnight parking at one airport can erase a cheap fare. If you have a connection, a “cheap” origin that only offers a tight legal connect is a misconnect waiting to happen — connections.
Open-jaw (into LHR, home from CDG) can beat a round-trip into one city if you were going to take a train anyway. That is two one-ways or a true open-jaw fare. Search both. One-way versus round-trip.
City-pair pages pick one origin code per metro (JFK for New York). The airport hubs list other codes. Use airports and live search. Azurovia does not ticket either airport.
