Name corrections on tickets: what airlines will still change

US airlines send names to TSA Secure Flight. The name on the ticket should match the government ID you will present — same last name, same given name, same middle name if you put one. A nickname (Dave vs David) fails. Azurovia passes search parameters only; the legal name is entered on the seller’s passenger page. Get it right there.

What is a correction versus a name change

Transposed letters, a missing space, or a hyphen the passport includes are often treatable as a correction, sometimes for a fee, sometimes free inside 24 hours. Changing the passenger to a different person is almost never allowed on a nonrefundable fare. Marriage and legal name changes usually require documents and still may force a reticket.

Travel sites

If a travel site issued the ticket, the airline may refuse to edit the name and send you back. Do not buy a second ticket until the first is voided or refunded.

Infant names

Infants need the name that will appear on their passport or birth record for international trips. Domestic lap infants still should not be “Baby Smith.”
